Copy the following note into your jotter.
An Affix is the part of a word that can be added to the beginning or end of the word. The word it is being added to is called the Root word. There are two types of affixes:
Prefixes: A prefix is a group of letters that is added at the beginning of a root word. Most prefixes have a particular meaning and can therefore help you to understand the meaning of a word.
E.g. tri (meaning three)+ angle = triangle (having three angles)
Some common prefixes are:
pre = before anti = against mis = wrong
multi = many semi = half ex = out of
Suffixes: A suffix is a group of letters that is added to the end of a word and can change the meaning of the root word.
E.g. care + less = careless
Task: Add one of the prefixes to each of the root words below to make a new word. Prefixes: mis il bi semi ex dis multi anti

5. social 6. legal 7. portable 8. millionaire
Write out each word below and underline the suffix. Write down the root word for each one. (You may need to alter the spelling.)
E.g. cyclist = cycl ist root word = cycle
