Agreement of the Verb with its Subject


Copy the following note into your jotter.

A singular subject must be followed by a singular verb. A plural subject is followed by a plural verb.


Examples


1 . The height of the walls was increased. (Singular)

2.The walls of the city were destroyed. (Plural)

3.Most of the harvest was ruined. (Singular)

4.Most of the men were saved. (Plural)

 

Write out the following sentences in your jotter. Choose the correct word from the brackets.

 

1.  The absence of the boys (was, were) reported.
