Kilmarnock and District Cup final 2006
Kilmarnock Academy v Grange Academy
The game took place at Blair Park , the home of Hurlford Juniors.
Kick off was at 6:30pm on 18/5/06.
The game started off well with the team settling quite quickly and within the first few minutes of the game Kilmarnock were awarded a penalty for a hand ball incident inside the box.
Rhys Lindsay duly stepped up to the spot and slotted it high into the top corner, giving the goal keeper no chance. Rhys then went on to hit the bar a few minutes later.
Minutes later Kilmarnock were refused a blatant penalty claim when striker Jordan Ryan was brought down prior to shooting just inside the six yard box.
As the game progressed the team settled well with much of the play happening in the midfield with Neil Scoular and Gary Cochrane carrying out their man-marking jobs superbly.
Jordan Ryan had a chance shortly afterward when he went in for a tackle on a Grange defender inside the box, almost scoring in the process but was beaten by the post and then the bar in the follow up.
As Grange academy came more into the game Kilmarnock 's defence absorbed everything they threw at them due to the organisational skills of man of the match Rhys Doogan and the rest of the defensive player's resilient tackling.
The boys stuck to the task with every man in the team playing their part on the day and won the game 1-0 and should be tremendously proud in winning the Cup for Kilmarnock Academy .
